Search Directions Close Window The Benchmark Search routine uses hundred-blocks to locate benchmarks throughout Kansas City.
The hundred-block North represents the distance north of the Missouri River at the Kansas River. Note that if the distance is South of this point, then the hundred-block is negative (i.e., Admiral Blvd. is 700 South and is represented by 7 North). There are three different ways to enter the hundred-block North. You can select a street name from the Street Name [Block North] list, which has an alphabetical listing of most of the streets in Kansas City that run east and west. Or, you can select a street name from the Block North [Street] list, which is a numeric listing by hundred-block North. Or, you can enter a hundred-block into the box just left of 00 Block [North] in the Center Search at: area near the bottom of the search page. There are a couple of things to remember when selecting a hundred-block North. All hundred-blocks South are negative numbers North (see above). Also, if you are searching an intersection where there is no East/West street, keep in mind that there are, on average, 8 hundred-blocks per mile north and south.
Similarly, the hundred-block East represents a distance east of Main Street. Note that if the distance is West of Main St., then the hundred-block is negative (i.e., Broadway is 400 West and is represented by 4 East). There are three different ways to enter the hundred-block East. You can select a street name from the Street Name [Block East] list, which has an alphabetical listing of most of the streets in Kansas City that run north and south. Or, you can select a street name from the Block East [Street] list, which is a numeric listing by hundred-block East. Or, you can enter a hundred-block into the box just left of 00 Block [East] in the Center Search at: area near the bottom of the search page. There are a couple of things to remember when selecting a hundred-block East. All hundred-blocks West are negative numbers East (see above). Also, if you are searching an intersection where there is no North/South street, keep in mind that there are, on average, 16 hundred-blocks per mile east and west.
Once you have selected an intersection using the hundred-block North and hundred-block East, you may want to enter a different number for the Radius. The default radius for your search will be 1 meaning that the routine will search for a benchmark at the intersection you have selected and 1 block in all directions from that intersection. If you want to look for benchmarks that may be more than 1 block from your chosen intersection, just change the North/South Radius and/or East/West Radius numbers. Note that these radii default to being locked meaning if you change one radius, the other will change automatically (even though this may not show on the web page). However, if you would like to enter different numbers for the North/South and East/West radii, just click the Lock Radii box to uncheck it.
Lastly, hit the Search button at the bottom of the page and wait for your results. |
