  • Illegal dumping
  • If a holiday falls during the week, trash and recycling collection takes place on the day following the holiday, and collection for the remaining days of the week also takes place one day later than usual. Friday trash is collected on Saturday during such weeks.

The City observes the following holidays in 2008:
  • New Year’s Day - Jan. 1
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day - Jan. 21
  • Presidents Day - Feb. 18
  • Memorial Day - May 26
  • Independence Day - July 4
  • Labor Day - Sept. 1
  • Veterans Day - Nov. 11
  • Thanksgiving Day - Nov. 27
  • Christmas Day - Dec. 25
  • We provide the most cost-effective trash and recycling collection service in the nation. It costs us about $7 per household per month less than the national average. There is no monthly fee for trash collection service, as there is in most cities. Our program is funded from general tax dollars.

The cost of trash disposal is likely to rise in the future as landfill fees and other costs increase. By diverting recyclable materials away from the landfill through the KC Recycles program, we'll keep future disposal costs lower than they would be otherwise.
