image--downtown at night T he Public Works Department employs about 500 employees who provide many essential city services, such as recycling, trash collection, bulky item pickup, street maintenance, traffic sign and signal, street lighting and snow removal. Additional responsibilities include oversight of public transportation (Area Transportation Authority).

Stan Harris is the director of Public Works. His office is located on the 20th floor of City Hall. Five division managers help accomplish the department’s goals and assist in daily operations.
