The Kansas City Missouri Police Department’s charity of choice is Special Olympics.  Members of the Kansas City Missouri Police Department have partnered with Special Olympics Missouri, www.somo.org, to support the Special Olympic Mission, which is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with mental disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.  Special Olympic funding also provides health screens for athletes who may not have the insurance or funding to pay for those services.

There are many opportunities to volunteer or participate with Kansas City Missouri Police Department members in effort to raise money to support Special Olympics.  Special Olympic events throughout the year include, the Polar Bear Plunge, Tip-A-Cop, and The Broadway Bridge Run.
