Upon graduation from the Regional Police Academy, Police Officers are assigned to one of six patrol division stations. All of these divisions are full service police stations located within the city limits of Kansas City, Missouri, serving those within the 319 square miles of the City. With a population of nearly a half of a million people, which does not include daily commuters and visitors, Kansas City, Missouri Police Officers are vital to providing service and protection.
To accomplish the basic goals of serving and protecting, several “specialized units” support patrol functions. Eight full-time tactical teams provide service for barricaded subjects, the execution of search warrants, dignitary details and concentrated enforcement. Detectives assigned to various elements such as Homicide, Assault, Cold Case, Robbery, Sex Crimes, Domestic Violence, Property Crimes, Fraud, Forgery, Crimes Against Children, Narcotics, Gang, Vice, Interdiction, Intelligence, Bomb and Arson, Vehicular Crimes, Internal Affairs and others conduct thorough investigations, inspiring Police Officers to enhance their careers with an assignment in an investigative position. Additional opportunities for career mobility and advancement may lie with an assignment in Traffic Enforcement, Commercial Motor Vehicle, Helicopter, Canine, Bicycle and All Terrain Vehicle Teams, Crime Free Multi-Housing, or internal positions such as Planning and Research, Capital Improvements, Recruiting, DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) and The Police Athletic League just to name a few more opportunities!
