The Dangerous Buildings and Vacant Property Operations Division houses the Dangerous Building Demolition Program, Board-up Program, and Special Investigations Unit and Salvage Yard Program.
The division historically has been known for the demolition of dangerous buildings, but recent adjustments in service delivery are focusing on inventorying vacant structures throughout the city to investigate why structures become vacant and explore options for rehabilitation. During this process, steps are taken to secure each structure and determine the feasibility of renovating the structure.
Partnerships with the Police and Fire departments continue to bring faster and more effective responses to fire-damaged structures and vacant houses that solicit criminal activities. These partnerships allow the Dangerous Buildings and Vacant Property Operations Division to eliminate conditions that threaten the health, safety and well-being of our neighborhoods in a shorter period of time.
