Education Reform in the Kansas City School District
In March, David Smith, then president of the Kansas City, Missouri, Board of education, appointed a civic task force to develop a strategy to rebuild community confidence in and support of the school district through greater academic achievement and more effective policy leadership.  Mayor Funkhouser served on this task force.  This week, the task force released its final report. The Mayor fully supports this report and has pledged to help push for its recommendations to be followed up on. Read his official statement on the report.

First Ladies of Kansas City
First LadiesWomen are the fabric that holds communities together, and this award is created to honor them. Their work is never-ending and of utmost importance. The person nominated for this resolution should be a woman who has consistently served the needs of others, while frequently going unnoticed herself. This resolution is to honor the women of our community who have given to many, but who have been served by few. Recipients will be invited to City Hall to receive a special resolution in their honor. Nominate a First Lady.

Be Somebody's Hero
Hero imageThere are many unsung heroes in our community. The most important are those that make a difference in a child’s life. There are many children in our community who don’t have much in the way of parenting, so the person being nominated for this resolution should be someone who goes out of their way to make a child feel important. Nominate a Hero
