The individual in this position assists in the analysis and development of project functional requirements, test plans, and test scripts and defines and implements quality assurance (QA) policies and procedures. The individual in this role will interact with business development, system developers, end users, and all other groups involved in project development, testing, or test planning. Responsibilities include developing or assisting in the development of functional requirements, testing applications, developing test plans, editing and/or writing test cases and test scripts, and evaluating test results to determine compliance with test plans and established business processes.

Examples of Job Responsibilities
  • Develop test plans and scripts from functional and business specifications
  • Plan, test, and report the results of manual testing
  • Perform load, stress, performance, and reliability testing
  • Identify and document software faults and interact with development staff to isolate and resolve testing issues
  • Perform static and dynamic load analysis
  • Determine compliance with test plans and procedures
  • Develop testing documentation and report on test process and results
  • Validate problem resolution fixes
  • Implement automated testing tools
  • Validate and document product functionality across releases
  • Interact extensively with vendors


Preferred Skills and Knowledge

  • OS software: Knowledgeable about operating systems software (Unix/NT or legacy), including paging and swapping, interprocess communications, device drivers, tools, and file system concepts and facilities
  • RDBMS: Experience with one or more databases (e.g., Oracle, Sybase, SQL Server)
  • Experience with and knowledge of shell scripts, SQL, network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP), and GUI interfaces
  • Technical knowledge, including new computing architectures and environments (e.g., client/server Web); knowledge of relevant technology, tools, and middleware is critical; including but not limited to C/C++, Java, 4GLs, MS Office, Windows, ODBC, GUls, and RPCs
  • Experience in performing functional, integration, and regression testing- preferred
  • Familiarity with problem tracking/reporting systems
  • Familiarity with NT and Unix platforms
  • Experience in dealing with SQL queries
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Interpersonal skills with all levels of management
  • Skill in applying knowledge and techniques to solve problems
  • Teamwork and interdepartmental communication skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of business needs, with the ability to establish and maintain a high level of user trust and confidence in the team's concern for users
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks in a cross-functional environment
  • Experience in effectively communicating with customers, employees, and senior management
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively adapt to and apply rapidly changing technology to business needs
  • Ability to solve problems independently, quickly, and completely and to communicate them clearly to upper management
  • Ability to develop technical documentation and make presentations to diverse types of audiences (management, users, vendors, technical staff)


Working Relationships

Internal:

  • Reports to the Assistant Director of IT
  • Has regular contact with IT and business unit personnel

External:

  • May have contact with vendors, industry peers, and professional associations to keep informed of existing and evolving industry standards and technologies
