Dear resident:
Thank you for subscribing to my monthly e-newsletter. I enjoy sharing the latest in how the City is working to improve services for residents.
Rental registration and inspection program to start
The City Council initiated a new code enforcement program to help upgrade the housing stock and prevent the decline and deterioration of residential neighborhoods. The Rental Registration and Inspection Program, which begins Jan. 1, 2008, requires owners of rental property to register their units with the City. Applications will be available in December. More about the program.
City prepares for snow season
The City is planning for the upcoming winter season by mapping new snow routes, double-checking equipment, stockpiling salt and training crews. The City's snow plan is designed to keep primary arterial streets open and provide residents a path to these streets. In addition to our larger snow plows, the City also has a fleet of small plows that can get into tight residential areas to start plow operations near the beginning of a storm. Regional Police Training facility dedicated
Gov. Matt Blunt, Mayor Mark Funkhouser and Police Chief James D. Corwin helped dedicate the new Regional Police Training Academy on Nov. 13. The academy, located at Pleasant Valley Road and North Shoal Creek Parkway, has a 500-seat auditorium, administrative offices for both in-service and recruitment training staff and six classrooms. It also has a 22,500-square foot indoor pistol range with 30 lanes and a 200-yard outdoor rifle range. The state-of-the-art facility will help us ensure our police are well trained. Watch a video of the dedication.
Bannister redevelopment project
The Tax Increment Financing Commission of Kansas City recommended $230 million in TIF for the redevelopment of the Bannister Mall area. The project is now under consideration by City Council. The $943 million Three Trails Redevelopment project includes a soccer stadium for the Kansas City Wizards, a tournament soccer field complex and retail space. More
Grant to help increase access to recreation
The Parks and Recreation Department was awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Health to increase access to inclusive recreation opportunities for people with disabilities. The grant will allow the Parks and Recreation Department to develop and provide recreation services that meet the needs of people with disabilities and to build the capacity of staff to provide services that support such needs. More about the Parks and Recreation Department.
As always, I appreciate your feedback. Please feel free to e-mail questions and comments to my office at Insight@kcmo.org.
