Unsung city full of surprises
Kansas City is one of the nation's 10 "underrated cities with unexpected appeal," according to the Los Angeles Times. The ranking cites the city's downtown renovation, entertainment and shopping district, architecture, public art, affordable sightseeing and renowned barbecue. Watch a video about Kansas City
KCI tops rankings for medium-sized airports
Kansas City International is the top medium-sized airport, according to a new study. The study considers an airport medium sized when it handles a capacity of 10 to 30 million passengers a year. More about KCI
Task force meets on economic development
The City is developing a formal economic development/incentive policy. A task force of councilmembers and 14 others from the community met this week to facilitate increased stakeholder participation in the economic development and incentive policy development process. Public participation is welcome and encouraged in this process. More information, read the economic development report or watch videos of meetings.
Summer in the city
Stay cool this summer by attending free swim pool parties. The free swims take place at neighborhood pools across the city on:
* July 10 from 4-7 p.m. at Swope Pool, 6700 Lewis Road
* July 24 from 4-7 p.m. at Brush Creek Pool, 3801 Emanuel Cleaver II Blvd.
* Aug. 7 from 4-7 p.m. at Budd Pool, 5600 Budd Park Espanade.
MusicFest comes to Municipal Auditorium, 301 W. 13th St., on July 7. The Spinners and The Manhattans will perform at the family-friendly event. Ticket prices start at $10 and are available through Ticketmaster outlets.
KC After Dark offers a variety of activities to youth ages 11-18 years on Friday and Saturday nights for only $50. These supervised activities, which run through August, include visits to Tiffany Springs Water Park, Paradise Park and Power Play. Find out more on summer camps and other activities.
City Market marks 150th anniversary with events
Celebrate the City Market's 150th anniversary this year with events throughout the summer. The City Market is known for its farmers' market, eclectic entertainment venue, shopping and restaurants.
KC Riverfest also kicks off June 29-30 with face painting, kids activities, wake boarding, fireworks and more. Tickets are $5. Find out more information on Riverfest 2007.
