City Internship Program exposes Kansas City’s college students to career
opportunities in local government while allowing them to develop and strengthen
professional skills in a work environment conducive to their education.
City interns will gain valuable experience in a professional city government environment
as they fulfill essential duties to maintain the City’s level of services
to residents.
"The City Internship
allows students to make important contributions to the City while
participating in a challenging and rewarding work environment. We
welcome students of every academic major to City Hall. Your contributions
to the very communities you live in help us to further enhance our processes and initiatives to deliver quality services to citizens.
The City is a key employer that enjoys the benefit of bright and
motivated employees. I’m impressed by candidates who have taken
advantage of opportunities that integrate their classroom theories
with real world models. As a product of internships myself, I strongly
believe the experiences, connections and mentorship I gained as
an intern played an integral role in my career development." -- Wayne A. Cauthen,
City Manager
Partnership
The City
Internship Program is an exclusive collaboration between the City of Kansas
City, Mo., and the University of MissouriKansas City. As a result
of the two most obvious and prominent institutions in Kansas City
reaching out to each other, a program has been developed
to give students the opportunity to gain valuable professional public
service experience that enhances their skills and competencies while learning
how city government works. From this experience with the City, students
will be uniquely positioned to take the next important steps toward building
successful careers and becoming responsible community leaders.
"As a City
Intern from UMKC, you will have rare opportunities to apply
the skills and knowledge that you have acquired in your courses to
real-life situations. The City of Kansas City, Mo., welcomes you
as
a valuable resource, while giving you the chance to gain practical
experience, meet public sector professionals, and strengthen your notion
of community and your place in it.
"At the same time,
you will benefit Kansas City and your fellow citizens
by offering your own approach and fresh ideas to issues that matter.
Civic pride will take its place alongside the value you have found in
your studies and in UMKC.
"I urge you to get
more information by checking the websites given here,
and finding the place that is right for you. This could be one of the
best choices you make in your academic career." --Dr. Guy Bailey, UMKC
chancellor
