Neighborhood and Community Services Department
The Neighborhood and Community Services Department provides social and rehabilitative neighborhood services
and programs that directly impact the people who live in our neighborhoods, their pets and their property.
The department consists of the following divisions and programs:
Animal Health and Public Safety
– is responsible for pet licensing, animal adoption and animal ordinance
enforcement.
Dangerous Buildings and Vacant Property Operations– demolishes vacant and abandoned buildings.
Municipal Correctional Institution – holds individuals incarcerated by the City's Municipal Court and the Circuit Court of Jackson County, Mo.
Neighborhood Services – provides assistance
and support to neighborhood organizations.
Neighborhood Preservation – enforces the property maintenance code and nuisance code.
Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund – oversees a reimbursement grant program that supports activities that promote Kansas City, Mo., as a premier convention,
visitor and tourist destination.
Regulated Industries – is responsible for liquor control and regulation of adult entertainment, commercial vehicles and amusements.
Human Services – is housed in the Robert J. Mohart Multipurpose FOCUS Center, provides day care services for the homeless and administers the Foster Grandparent Program, homeless initiatives
and the Summer Food Service Program for Children.
Tow Services – provides storage of vehicles impounded by the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department, tows abandoned vehicles,
and conducts vehicle auctions.
Property Preservation – improves, repairs and supports the housing stock in Kansas City, Mo., by using home repair programs funded by City, state, federal and private money.
