Inauguration activities for new mayor, City Council
The swearing in ceremony for Mayor-elect Mark Funkhouser and City Councilmembers will be Tuesday, May 1 at 9:30 a.m. You can watch the ceremony online or on KCCG-TV2.
The new mayor and City Council will celebrate with an inauguration at Union Station on Friday, May 4 from 7-11 p.m. The inauguration celebration is free to the public, but commemorative wristbands will be required for admittance. The free wristbands will be available beginning April 28 at area community centers, and must be obtained in advance of the May 4 celebration.
The informal celebration will include live music, dancing, light appetizers and brief introductions of Mark Funkhouser and elected members of the City Council: Deb Hermann, 1st District At-Large; Bill Skaggs, 1st District In-District; Ed Ford, 2nd District At-Large; Russ Johnson, 2nd District In-District; Melba Curls, 3rd District At-Large; Sharon Sanders Brooks, 3rd District In-District; Beth Gottstein, 4th District At-Large; Jan Marcason, 4th District In-District; Cindy Circo, 5th District At-Large; Terry Riley, 5th District In-District; Cathy Jolly, 6th District At-Large; and John Sharp, 6th District In-District.
The commemorative wristbands that will serve as free tickets to the May 4 celebration will be available at the following community centers on a first come, first served basis beginning Saturday, April 28. Residents must be 18 years or older to attend.
