The award honors communities that have made major progress in meeting their most important needs. Kansas City featured its downtown renaissance, the Westside Community Action Network Center and Operation Breakthrough.

"We always knew we were an All-America City," said Mayor Kay Barnes. "Now the whole country knows it!"

The All-America City Award is considered the Nobel Prize for communities. Winning this award contributes to the growing national recognition of Kansas City, Mo.
