If you feel you have been a victim of discrimination based on your race, national origin, sex, religion, disability, age, sexual orientation, familial status
or marital status in employment, housing or
public accommodations, you may submit a complaint online, and an investigation will be conducted.
A few examples of the types of cases handled by our office are: (1) a person
is turned down for a promotion because of his or her sex; (2) a homeowner is
denied hazard insurance because their home is located in a minority neighborhood;
(3) a person with a disability couldn't use a public facility because there
is no wheelchair accessibility; (4) a person is denied an apartment because
of his or her race.
Please fill out the forms completely and accurately. We need as much information as possible so that we may process your complaint as quickly as possible.
Before filing your complaint, please consider the following:
- The alleged discriminatory act must have occurred within the last 180 days in order for our department to have jurisdiction.
- The employer or business establishment that you are filing against must be located within the City of Kansas City, Mo.
- For employment discrimination complaints, the employer must have at least six employees.
- For fair housing complaints, the property in question must be located within the City of Kansas City, Mo.
- Please do not file a claim with our department if you have filed the same claim with another agency, i.e. EEOC, Missouri Commission on Human Rights.
- You must be 18 years old to file a complaint. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must file for you.
