The training is held at the Platte County Treatment Plant, 6615 Northwest Eastside Drive, Kansas City, MO 64152. For directions, please call the number listed below.

A classroom session offered in the spring is geared towards first time attendees. The class is held at the Kansas City Health Department, 2400 Troost, Kansas City, Missouri 64108. See the map link below for directions, or the link below for the registration form packet.

To register, please fill out one application form for every person that will be attending (the form can be duplicated as necessary). The registration fee is $150, payable by a check made out to the City Treasurer of Kansas City, Missouri. Send check and application to Air Quality. The fee is non-refundable, although the training will be rescheduled during inclement weather. If the weather is questionable the day of the training, please call the office to see if the training is postponed.

KCMO Air Quality Program Smoke School Training All attendees should complete several tests after their passing test. This will help avoid false passing and will provide everyone with more practice.

Copies of classroom material can be obtained upon request, or for more detailed information on the certification process, refer to 40 CFR Part 60, Appendix A, Method 9 - Visual Determination of the Opacity of Emissions from Stationary Sources*.

The four page form entitled "Opacity Records*" should be used to record opacity in the field. This is a suggested format from Method 9. Other forms may be used as long as the information listed in Section 2 of Method 9 is recorded.

If you have any questions, please contact the Air Quality Program at (816) 513-6314.
