Community Health Assessment 2007
Community Health Assessment 2007 is the latest edition to the Health Department's annual series of community data that provides a baseline against which improvements in the community’s health can be measured. Each edition of this report has built upon prior data and has expanded both the topics covered and the level of data analysis for many areas.
The information contained in the report comes from local, state, and federal sources, as well as from community and national organizations, such the Partnership for Children. Undoubtedly, there are other data in the community that could be used to enhance the information presented in these reports. The Health Department will include that information in future editions. The 2007 Assessment is available both as a single, total document and by chapters; if you have any difficulty opening or viewing any of those PDF documents, please e-mail us.

Big Cities Health Inventory, 2003: The Health of Urban USA, 5th edition
This report was prepared by the Chicago Department of Public Health and presents city-to-city comparisons of leading measures of health. The report was funded in part by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Health Resources and Services Administration and was developed in close collaboration with the National Association of County and City Health Officials and local health department partners, including the Kansas City Health Department.
The report represents the collaborators' commitment to providing information for improving community health. Increased financial support for and critical input from local health departments and public health researchers resulted in significant enhancements to the report both in terms of available data and interpretation. In addition to the data in the report, the edition examines the need for and uses of city-level data to identify local health priorities, design interventions, evaluate performance and other public health policy.
Medical Protocols for EMTs, paramedics and base station physicians
These protocols are published by the Kansas City, Mo., Health Department and used by emergency medical technicians (EMTs), paramedics and base station physicians in the city.
Morbidity reports
The communicable disease morbidity reports are generated from the disease reports received by the Division of Communicable Disease Control. Each of the monthly reports is based on the information received for the particular month and only contains information related to Kansas City, Mo., residents. As additional information is collected and/or recognized on these cases, there is a possibility that some of the numbers may change slightly throughout the year. The annual reports contain the year-end counts for the various reportable diseases and are based on the date of diagnosis rather than the date of report. This adjusts for delays in reporting and is a better measure of the overall morbidity trends within the City.

Fact sheets
The Division of Health Education and Health Communication has collaborated with the Division of Communicable Disease Control and Public Health Preparedness, the Division of Environmental Health Services, and the Office of Epidemiology and Health Monitoring to prepare fact sheets on the diseases and conditions for which the most inquiries are received from the community. The listing of fact sheets is not comprehensive for all diseases. The question and answer format for each fact sheet is based upon the typical questions the division receives for that particular disease or condition. If you have questions regarding an infectious or parasitic disease that is not listed, please call (816) 513.6152.
