HIV and AIDS information
HIV and AIDS statistics in the Kansas City 11-county area differ greatly from State and National statistics. The 11-county area, which is determined by the Ryan White funding received, includes Cass, Clay, Clinton, Jackson, Lafayette, Platte and Ray Counties in Missouri and Johnson, Leavenworh, Miami and Wyandotte Counties in Kansas.
As of the end of 2007, there were 4900 men and 790 women living with HIV in the 11-county area. That includes people who have been diagnosed in other jurisdictions and moved here.
In 2007, there were 256 new cases in males and 54 new cases in females reported in that area. A more thorough breakdown may be found in the Kansas City TGA Statistics fact sheet.
The latest information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC, indicates that as of 2006, 160 people with AIDS live in the Kansas City area. Not everyone with HIV has AIDS, and people with AIDS can, with appropriate and timely treatment, can greatly improve their health.
