The Health Commission has six standing committees. The Health Commission’s mission is fulfilled, in large part by the work of its committees. Each Committee has a membership of up to 25 people, who come from diverse sectors. The Health Commission’s standing committees are:

Exeuctive Committee
The Executive Committee establishes the annual meeting calendar for the Health Commission and Committes, acts on behalf of the Health Commission for time-sensitive issues (subject to ratification by the full Commission at its next meeting), approves Community Health Advisors to serve as members for each committee, appoints or serves as the By-Laws Committtee and/or Nominating Committee, and establishes additional ad hoc workgroups, task forces and/or committees as needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the Health Commission.

Health Planning Committee
The Health Planning Committee will oversee development, implementation and updates of the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) and facitilitate the drafting of the Health Commission's Annual Report and the presentation of that report before the full City Council or an appropriate committee.

Minority Health and Health Equity Committee
The Minority Health and Health Disparity Committee monitors implementation of recommendations from the 2001 Minority Health Improvement Task Force Report, develops partnerships that align community efforts to improve minority health, and advocates for adoption of public policies that reduce disparities in health outcomes for minorities, disadvantaged populations and underserved populations.

Tobacco Use Reduction Committee
The Tobacco Use Reduction Committee supports efforts to educate the public about the health and economic benefits of reducing tobacco consumption in local communities, explores policies to reduce the harmful impace of tobacco, including Clean Indoor Air (CIA) Ordinances and other strategies for building smoke-free communities, and strategically positions the Kansas City area to secure future tobacco prevention and cessation funding from state taxes or reallocation of MSA funds.

Women's, Infants' and Children's Health Committee
The Women’s, Infants’ and Children’s Health Committee collaborates with the Kansas City Fetal Infant Mortality Review Process by serving the Community Action Team for that initiative, develops and advocates for public policies that improve health outcomes for women, infants and children, and uses available data to determine effective community interventions, ensuring their implementation.

Budget and Contract Evaluation Committee
The Budget and Contract Evaluation Committee reviews safety net agency performance/fiscal data provided by the Health Department, drafts recommendations (subject to Health Commission approval) regarding health funding portions of the annual Kansas City, Mo., budget process and (3) submits recommendations for performance measures to be included in annual safety net contracts negotiated by the Health Department.
