The Air Quality Program ensures the safety and quality of the air in Kansas City by regulating sources of air pollution, and working with other state, local, and federal agencies to plan and implement strategies to protect our future air quality.

The engineering staff of the Air Quality Program regulates a wide verity of industries, facilities and stationary businesses to ensure that pollution levels are kept as low as possible and within healthful limits, by issuing construction and operating permits.

Sources are inspected to ensure compliance with construction and operating permits requirements, good work practices, reported emissions inventories, and compliance with air regulations and laws. Examples of sources to be inspected are power plant, concrete batch plants, asphalt plants, surface coaters, printing facilities, dry cleaners, etc.
