Officials
from the National Parks Service,
the Kemper Foundation, the Kansas City River Trails Inc., and the City
of
Kansas City, Mo., attended a dedication event May 4 at River
Bluff
Park.
Mayor
Kay Barnes highlighted this project’s
significance to the Riverfront Heritage Trail and the City’s
progress in
completing capital improvement projects to enhance Kansas City’s
livability. The trail is a
10-mile, bi-state system of riverfront, urban, bicycle and pedestrian
pathways
that will be the hub of the many existing and planned
pedestrian/bicycle
trails.
River
Bluff
Park
overlooks the West Bottoms and the Missouri
and Kansas
rivers along the Riverfront Heritage Trail route. The many amenities
include a
scenic overlook with brick pavers and landscaping, a public art
component that
honors the Lewis and Clark Expedition, as well as street improvements
to Beardsley
Street.
The park will serve as the site of many upcoming events, including this
summer’s Freedom Walk over the 4th of July weekend. The walk
will raise funds
for family members serving in the armed services.
