  • The 12th Street Viaduct will be closed through  July for repairs. Detour routes have been posted, and a number of detour options are available to enter the Central Industrial District and reach the American Royal and Kemper Arena: 

    North of River

    • Take Interstate 29 to Highway 169 and cross the Broadway Bridge
    • Go right at the base on Fifth Street at the base of the bridge to Beardsley.
    • Turn left on Beardsley to Union Avenue.
    • Turn right on Union Avenue to Mulberry.
    • Turn right on 13th Street to Liberty Avenue
    • Turn left on Liberty to the American Royal

    From downtown Kansas City, Kansas

    • East on the Lewis and Clark Viaduct (I-70 East) to Beardsley
    • Right on Beardsley to Union Avenue Viaduct
    • Right on Union Avenue to Mulberry
    • Left on Mulberry to 13th Street.
    • 13th Street to Liberty and the American Royal

    Southwest of Kansas City

    • Take I-70 East to 670 East and exit at the Genessee and Wyoming exit. 
    • Turn right onto Genessee and proceed to the American Royal

    South from Kansas

    • Take I-35 North to the I-670 West exit. Exit onto 1B Wyoming and Genessee exit. 
    • At the stop sign, turn left and proceed on to the American Royal.

    South from Plaza

    • Take Southwest Trafficway north to exit at West Pennway. 
    • Curve to the right onto Southwest Boulevard and turn right to 23rd Street.
    • Right on 23rd Street and to American Royal Way

    Downtown or areas east of Kansas City

    • Take I-70 West to I-670 West.
    • Take exit 1B – Wyoming and Genessee.
    • Left on Genessee to the American Royal

    Areas adjacent to active construction sites may expose drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians to dangerous conditions. Please stay alert and aware of hazardous conditions while traveling through these construction areas. Construction site conditions change frequently, and previously clear areas may be rendered hazardous by the ongoing movement of construction equipment or materials. While in effect, posted restrictions regarding site, street and lane closures must be followed at all times and should not be disregarded by the public.
