Kansas City LIVE! is progressing forward

Kansas City’s downtown is one-step closer to becoming the destination for local Kansas Citians, businesses and tourists alike.  On July 21, the Cordish Company announced its lead design team for the new Kansas City Live! entertainment district at a news conference at the downtown office of CDFM2.  Mayor Kay Barnes, City Manager Wayne Cauthen, City officials and local business leaders also attended.

Blake L. Cordish, vice president of The Cordish Company, indicated in his opening remarks the critical importance Kansas City Live! will play for Kansas City and how fortunate they are to have a professional team of design experts working on the project. Kansas City Live! will occupy 3 million square feet covering seven city blocks and totaling in estimated value of over $850 million. It will include a number of shops and entertainment spots, residential, office and parking spaces.

A team of national and local professionals will lead the design of the entertainment district. CDFM2 Architecture of Kansas City, Mo. is named the architect of record and is partnering with the nationally-renowned design firm Beyer Blinder Belle of New York City for the conceptual design of the project. Group One and Rafael Architects are included in the design team as associate architects, with Taliaferro & Browne responsible for civil engineering, and Jonathan Arnold & Associates handling visual communications and marketing for Kansas City Live! All of these firms are based in Kansas City, Mo. Industry leader Selbert Perkins Design of Playa Del Rey, Calif., will develop the environmental graphics design.

The City’s Capital Improvements Management Office serves as a liaison between other City agencies and the developers of the district, and is also responsible for environmental, demolition, and infrastructure improvement efforts to support the new downtown entertainment district. CIMO is currently working on the trolley track removal and utility relocation on Walnut Street for the entertainment district.
