The Capital Improvements Management Office (CIMO) has set forth several initiatives to improve the way capital improvement projects are completed and delivered to the citizens of Kansas City.

Several of these initiatives have already come to fruition, including “Prequalifications for Construction Services under $300,000,” which was passed by ordinance by the City Council on Backhoe bucketFeb. 26, 2004.  This ordinance streamlines the process of awarding contracts for construction services.

This initiative allows the City to award construction services contracts estimated to cost less than $300,000, from a list of pre-qualified firms without having to undergo an extended bidding process.

The use of a prequalified contractor listing for bidding small construction projects was recommended by CIMO as one way to get small projects under way quickly.  Firms submit required information and are prequalified according to categories based on the firm's experience. As projects are selected for bidding through the program, bids are scheduled and bids received only from bidders prequalified in the specified category(ies).

The pre-qualification process for construction services with fees less than $300,000 was first launched on Sept. 10, 2004 and reissued again Feb. 28, 2005. Check out the fact sheet for more information.
