FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Dec. 21, 2005
Collection delayed one day and no need for trash tags Dec. 27-31
Because Monday, Dec. 26, is a City of Kansas City, Mo., holiday, weekly trash and recycling collection for citizens of Kansas City, Mo., will be delayed one day.
Citizens who usually have Monday collection will receive this service Tuesday, Dec. 27. Citizens who usually have Friday collection will receive this service Saturday, Dec. 31.
The week of Christmas, Dec. 27-31, is also a “no tag” week for trash collection in Kansas City, Mo. Only during a “no tag” week, citizens may set out more than two bags of trash without tags. This is done to accommodate the extra trash usually accumulated during this time.
“We want to encourage everyone to purchase durable items and reduce waste during the holiday season,” said Dee Ann Gregory, KC Recycles coordinator. “Look for products that are made with recycled content. Reusing bags when shopping, making gifts and giving tickets to special events are all great ways to reduce waste. When you receive a new appliance, coat or game, consider donating your older item to charity if it is in good condition.”
Residents are reminded that cardboard and paperboard boxes are recyclable and most wrapping paper and bows are not recyclable, however, many of these items can be re-used. For more information about environmentally-friendly holidays, visit www.kcmo.org/kcrecycles.
Christmas trees can be disposed of at the City’s Leaf and Brush Drop-off Centers, which are open every Saturday from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. through Jan. 14. The centers are at 4707 Deramus Ave. (two blocks north of the intersection of Chouteau Trafficway and Front Street) and Interstate 470 at Raytown Road.
