Health Department fills critical Title I HIV Services position

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Health Department appointed Martha (Marty) L. Galutia as the new manager of the HIV Services Program and assistant to the director of the Health Department effective immediately.

"Marty has demonstrated an ability to manage federal dollars, including a $3 million federal award, and she brings to this position a vast body of knowledge in public health practice, strategic planning and quality improvement," said Dr. Rex Archer, director of the Health Department. "Her compassion for local community members is demonstrated by her years of volunteer work with Care of Poor People and her collaboration with the Our Savior Lutheran Church Parish Nurse Program."

The HIV Services Program administers federal, state and City funds that provide medications and other services to people infected with HIV. The program focuses on case management, quality management, contract management and program development.

Galutia has worked in the Health Department 20 years. She has been successful in providing essential services to assist the residents of Kansas City in meeting their health care needs, both in health care and in prevention.

She has served as a board examiner for the Missouri Quality Award Program. Galutia also has represented the director of the Health Department on numerous boards, including the Truman Medical Center Quality Board, the Missouri Association of Local Public Health Agencies, and the National Association of County and City Officials Public Health Ready Project. Galutia has a master's degree in quality sciences.
