Health Department cuts flu shot prices

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Health Department has dropped the price of flu shots to $10 per shot to accommodate the needs of residents.

Flu shots for children and adults are available at the Health Department, 2400 Troost Ave., during regular clinic hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday.

The Health Department will bill Medicare or Missouri Medicaid for those who are eligible and show proof of coverage. For children who qualify for the Vaccine For Children program, there is no charge. To qualify for this program, children must not have health insurance or have health insurance that does not pay for a flu shot. Anyone not eligible for these programs will be charged $10; cash and credit cards only will be accepted for payment.

Getting a flu shot is the best way to prevent the flu or decrease the length and severity of symptoms. Those who are vaccinated against the flu are far less likely to spread the flu to those around them.

Media inquiries about this issue should be directed to Jeff Hershberger, Health Department, (816) 840-2548 (pager).
