FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Oct. 29, 2007

Special flu shot clinic at the Landing Mall to be Oct. 30

Some eligible for free shots

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Health Department will have a special flu shot clinic at the Landing Mall, 63rd Street and Troost Avenue on Oct. 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Flu shots for children and adults will be available.

The Health Department will bill Medicare or Missouri Medicaid for those who are eligible and show proof of coverage. Adults not eligible for these programs will be charged $20; cash and credit cards only will be accepted for payment. There is no charge for children who do not have health insurance or whose health insurance does not pay for a flu shot.

According to the Health Department, getting a flu shot is the best way to prevent the flu or decrease the length and severity of symptoms. Individuals who are protected from getting the flu also are far less likely to pass it to family, friends and neighbors.

Media inquiries about this issue should be directed to Jeff Hershberger, Health Department, (816) 840-2548 (pager).
