Health Department announces food quality award recipients

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Health Department has recognized four food establishments that have continuously demonstrated excellence in meeting food code and other public health standards.

The recipients of the Health Department’s fourth annual Grade A Food Excellence Award are:

• Nashua school cafeteria, 11400 N. McGee St.
• Briarcliff school cafeteria, 4100 N. Briarcliff Road
• Tea Drops, 4111 Pennsylvania Ave.
• Stowers Café, 1000 E. 50th St.

The department’s Grade A Food Excellence Award is given this year in celebration of the 13th annual Food Safety and Education Day, which is sponsored by the Health Department and the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association. The award is valid for one year. Recipients are asked to prominently display their awards.

The Health Department recognizes that excellence is better achieved when food service management provides employee education and training. The Grade A Food Excellence Award is awarded to establishments that have exhibited excellence in sanitation and food safety, as well as evidence of successful employee education.

The 2007 award is unique in that all food establishments in Kansas City were asked to submit applications according to specific criteria set forth by the Health Department and the Food Advisory Board.
