FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Sept. 21, 2006
Streets to close Monday to accommodate Music Hall project
Full closure Monday and partial closure until November
The section of 13th Street from Wyandotte to Central streets will close Sept. 25 from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. During this time, a mobile hydraulic crane will be set up on the southwest corner of 13th Street and Central Street, which will require the complete closure of 13th Street from Wyandotte to Central streets.
The crane will be used to construct an elevated steel penthouse tower onto the Municipal Auditorium building as a part of the expansion of Music Hall's stage. This expansion will provide increased stage capacity to make the facility more compatible with sets often required now by touring shows.
The crane will remain parked on 13th Street while the remainder of exterior structural work is completed, leaving one lane of traffic open on westbound 13th Street between Wyandotte and Central streets. This phase of construction will last until early November when the crane will be removed and the street again will be completely open. Construction for the Music Hall improvements project began in late July and is scheduled to be complete by February 2007.
