MusicFest lineup finalized, show to be July 3
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Convention and Entertainment Facilities Department has announced that ’80s pop sensation Evelyn “Champagne” King will join R&B group The Commodores for the fourth annual MusicFest celebration July 3 at Municipal Auditorium, 301 W. 13th St.
King’s hits include “Shame,” “I’m In Love” and “Love Come Down.”
Tickets are on sale at the Municipal Auditorium Box Office (open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), all ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com or by calling (816) 931-3330.
The Commodores have been a force in the music industry for three decades, with renowned R&B hits “Just to be Close to You,” “Easy” and “Brick House.” Despite churning out hit after hit in the glory days of Motown, The Commodores achieved Grammy recognition with the release of “Night Shift” in 1986, after lead singer Lionel Richie had left the group.
Municipal Auditorium’s doors will open at 7 p.m. on July 3 and The Commodores are expected to perform around 9 p.m.
