FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 25, 2007
Third annual health summit June 2
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Health Commission will host its third annual Community Health Summit on June 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, 1750 Independence Ave.
This year's theme, "Building a Healthier Community Together," will provide a forum for community organizations and individuals to work together to develop action steps that will focus on continuing to make the City's Community Health Improvement Plan a reality. Participants also will be encouraged to help carry out the action steps to the extent they are able.
The Community Health Improvement Plan, which was endorsed by the City Council in January 2006, consists of these eight health focus areas: 1) primary prevention, 2) tobacco use, 3) environmental health and safety, 4) mental health and addictive disorders, 5) women's, infants' and children's health, 6) chronic disease secondary prevention, 7) oral health and 8) communicable disease and disaster response. Breakout sessions at the summit will address each focus area and its potential for positive impact on Kansas Citians and visitors.
The event is free, but participants are asked to register. Free lunch will also be provided for those who register by May 31.
