FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 3, 2007

UPDATE: Wyoming Street Ramp to close April 6

The Wyoming Street Ramp off of the 23rd Street Viaduct will close April 6 for demolition. The 23rd Street Viaduct will close temporarily in late April and re-open in October for the duration of the American Royal events.

Age and constant wear have made the repair of the viaduct, which extends into the Central Industrial District, a priority. The viaduct will receive a full renovation.

This $8.8 million project will rehabilitate the 23rd Street Viaduct and American Royal Drive, while removing the Wyoming Street Ramp. Two bridge panels over the railroads will be replaced and roadway barriers will be installed. Repairs and rehabilitation will be undertaken to address wear and tear on the bridge's superstructure, bearings and substructure.

The estimated project completion date for the Wyoming Street ramp rehabilitation project is summer 2008. Suggested detours will be posted onsite at the time of construction.

All construction and repair work is done as long as the weather is favorable for such outdoor activity. Drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians are reminded to use caution in areas adjacent to active construction sites. Conditions in these areas can change rapidly, which may expose people to unexpected dangerous situations.

Media inquiries and other requests for information about this project should be directed to Sean Demory, Capital Improvements Management Office, (816) 513-0059 or kansascityworks@kcmo.org.
