FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 6, 2006

Public meeting March 7 for Red Bridge Road project

Citizens can get more information about planned improvements at a public meeting about the City of Kansas City, Mo., Red Bridge Road project. The meeting will be held March 7 from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, 4101 E. 105th Terrace, Kansas City, Mo.

The meeting will begin with an open house that will end at 7 p.m. and be followed by a presentation from City staff and project consultants. The meeting is being conducted to inform citizens of project progress and to respond to comments received during the open comment period held during the fall of 2005.

The planned improvements for Red Bridge Road from Holmes Road to Blue River Road include a new bridge to be built north of the existing bridge that will span the Blue River and the Union Pacific Railroad. The existing historic Red Bridge will remain in place and will be incorporated into the City’s parks system as a bicycle and pedestrian bridge. Plans to the roadway include the widening of the road to four lanes with left turn lanes, bicycle lanes, curbs and sidewalks. Other improvements include removing the existing signalized railroad crossing which will eliminate the disruption of traffic flow caused by trains. Tentative schedules for right-of-way acquisition and construction will be discussed at the meeting.

For more information about this meeting, call Mandie Nelson, Capital Improvements Management Office, (816) 513-2755.
