FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Feb. 2, 2007

Portion of Walnut Street to close

Walnut Street from South Truman Road to just north of 14th Street will close Monday, Feb. 5 at 9 a.m. This portion of Walnut Street will be closed to all traffic to accommodate construction for the retail portion of the Power & Light District. This work will be completed by J.E. Dunn Construction, the project's prime contractor, for The Cordish Company, the developer. This closure is scheduled to last until late spring 2007.

During the closure, drivers are encouraged to use the following detours:

Southbound traffic should head west on 13th Street to Main Street

Northbound traffic should head east on South Truman Road to Grand Boulevard

Main Street and Grand Boulevard will be open for two-way traffic.

During construction, the north section of the 1300 block of Walnut Street will remain open to northbound and southbound traffic. In addition, Walnut Street access for the H&R Block building garage and loading dock will remain open to two-way traffic during construction.

All construction and repair work is done as long as the weather is favorable for such outdoor activity. Drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians are reminded to use caution in areas adjacent to active construction sites. Conditions in these areas can change rapidly, which may expose people to unexpected dangerous situations.

A map highlighting these street closures is available at http://www.kcmo.org/cimo.nsf/web/dtconst.
