Avenue of the Arts goes bananas with final installation Friday, August 17, 2007
Installation has been completed on a 14-foot papier mache banana on the east wall of the Folly Theatre at 12th and Central streets. The sculpture, entitled “Staying the Course,” is the final piece of artwork to be installed for the 2007 Avenue of the Arts exhibition. The papier mache banana was conceptualized and created by local artists A. Bitterman and Deborah Pettid.

Regent Restaurant and Bar license appeal hearing set for Aug. 17 Wednesday, August 15, 2007
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Regulated Industries Division and the Liquor Control Board will conduct a hearing Aug. 17 for the owners of Regent Restaurant and Bar to appeal the City's decision to not approve the business' application for a liquor license. The City of Kansas City, Mo., Health Department's Esperanza Para Los Niños/Hope For The Children graduation ceremony and open house are scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, in Biery Auditorium at the Health Department, 2400 Troost Ave. Twenty-five participants completed the 18-month program.

Work to start on Convention Center loading dock project Thursday, July 12, 2007
Construction will begin on the first phase of the Kansas City Convention Center north loading dock renovation project on July 16. Pyramid Construction, the prime contractor of phase one, will demolish the structure's west wall, which runs adjacent to Broadway Boulevard, as well as the west entrance abutment. Phase one of the project will be completed by the last week of July. The entire project, which is scheduled to be completed by June 2008, will be constructed in a series of phases in order to accommodate the various events scheduled that require use of the loading dock and other Convention Center facilities.

Truman Road streetscape construction to start July 16 Thursday, July 12, 2007
Construction will begin on the $1.7 million Truman Road corridor streetscape improvement project July 16. This project, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of September, will affect East and West Truman Road and the Interstate 670 overpass bridges from Baltimore Avenue to McGee Street.

KC Recycles exceeds expectations at Rhythm and Ribs Fest Tuesday, June 26, 2007
The City of Kansas City, Mo., KC Recycles program achieved a 46 percent diversion rate by recycling 5,480 pounds of the nearly 12,000 pounds of waste generated during the Rhythm and Ribs Jazz and Blues Fest, which was held June 15 and 16 at 18th and Vine. Initial projections called for a 38 percent diversion rate for the event.
