Kansas City hosts All-America City Competition
The City of Kansas City, Mo., looks forward to hosting delegates from 23 jurisdictions across the country for the National Civic League’s All-America City Competition on June 15-17 at Kansas City’s Hyatt Regency Crown Center.
By the conclusion of the competition, 10 jurisdictions will receive the prestigious designation of an “All-America City.” This is an honor that has been achieved by the City of Kansas City, Mo., multiple times in the past.
During the competition, the delegates will present their stories of community success and explain how they addressed pressing local challenges to a jury of experts from the public, private and nonprofit sectors from across the U.S. Community delegates will also share their ideas and best practices with others who would benefit from their success.
The National Civic League and the Mid-America Regional Council will co-host a Center for Civic Excellence Innovation Forum on local fiscal sustainability Friday, June 17 from 1-4 p.m. Representatives from local government, business, nonprofits and community residents from the Kansas City regional and other parts of the country will discuss innovative ways of the addressing the tough fiscal challenges facing American communities.
The All-America City Awards competition is the signature event of the National Civic League, an organization with a long and respected history of working to improve communities by advocating effective local governance and public engagement initiatives, and by recognizing problem-solving communities through its awards program.
The 23 finalist cities are as follows:
California: Downey, Dublin, Huntington Park, Torrance and Yucaipa
Indiana: South Bend
Kansas: Scott City
Michigan: Ann Arbor
North Carolina: Eden and Fayetteville
New York: Buffalo
Oregon: Lakeview and Seaside
Texas: Fort Worth and Taylor Landing
Utah: Cottonwood Heights
