The City of Kansas City, Mo., Office of Emergency Management, is reminding the public that the State of Missouri’s annual statewide tornado drill is scheduled to take place on Thursday, March 10 at 1:30 p.m. The drill sirens in Kansas City, Mo., and throughout the state will be sounded by emergency management personnel.

City partners with DOE on LED streetlight test program Monday, February 21, 2011
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Public Works Department and the United States Department of Energy will begin a two-year program to test the use of light emitting diode (LED) technology for street lighting beginning Monday, Feb. 21. The test will provide data that will be used to determine the viability of transitioning city street lighting to a technology that is estimated to yield energy and maintenance savings in the range of 30 to 50 percent.

Penn Valley Parkway to close for large valve repair Wednesday, February 16, 2011
The northbound lanes and half of the southbound lanes of Penn Valley Parkway between 27th Street and 31st Street will be closed to repair a large valve and restore the pavement. Additionally, 29th Street between Penn Valley Parkway and Wyandotte Street will be closed. The closures will run from 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16 until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18.

Taxpayers will have until April 18 to file their 2010 tax returns Wednesday, February 16, 2011
The City of Kansas City, Mo., is advising taxpayers that they will have until Monday, April 18 to file their 2010 Earnings Tax returns and pay any tax due. The City is following the Internal Revenue Service filing deadline, which has been extended this year because Emancipation Day, a holiday observed in the District of Columbia, falls on Friday, April 15.
