Budget Division to merge with Finance Department
The City of Kansas City, Mo., has announced that the Budget Division of the City of Kansas City, Mo., City Manager’s Office will be transferred to the Finance Department and merged with the Accounts Division. As a cost savings measure, the reorganization will yield savings of more than $100,000 per year. The merger is effective Monday, Sept. 12, 2011.
“In addition to cost savings, the integration of the Budget Division within the Finance Department offers a tremendous opportunity to improve both financial oversight and service to the City’s departments and agencies,” said City Manager Troy Schulte. “Common management of the City’s budget and financial operations, documents, etc. should yield a variety of benefits to the City.”
The current staffing allocation for the Budget Division is 10 full-time equivalents. Of that total, four positions are currently vacant and six are filled. Two members of the Budget Division staff will be retained in the City Manager’s Office to enhance performance measurement and general administration. The remaining eight positions will be moved to the Finance Department, as part of the merger. City Controller Eric Clevenger will oversee the combined operations of the expanded division.
“The Finance Department welcomes the addition of the Budget Division,” said Finance Director Randall Landes. “We’re really excited about the move and look forward to finding new and creative ways to use our combined resources to improve customer service and the long-term financial condition of the City.”
