87th Street celebrates road improvements
The City of Kansas City, Mo., hosted a ribbon-cutting event Tuesday, Aug. 9 at 2 p.m. to celebrate the completion of the road construction project on 87th Street. The event was held at Dean Machinery, 5701 E. 87th St.
Several local leaders, including Fifth District at Large Councilwoman Cindy Circo, Sixth District at Large Councilman Scott Taylor and Sixth District Councilman John Sharp, attended and spoke at the event to show their support and dedication to the 87th Street improvement project.
“These new improvements support the City’s goal to improve quality of life as well as promote safety and a family-friendly environment,” said Councilwoman Circo. “I’m continuously impressed by the work our Public Works and Capital Projects departments have done.”
As a result of the $10 million roadway improvement project, 87th Street has been widened and realigned. Curbs, gutters and storm and sanitary sewers were replaced, and roundabouts were installed at both I-435 intersections, Hillcrest Road and Newton Avenue.
“This improvement project is a major step forward for Kansas City,” said Councilman Taylor. “The updated systems will allow for future expansion of business development in the 87th Street area as well as the improvement of neighborhood quality.”
The Capital Projects Department managed this extensive improvement project for the City’s Public Works Department.
