Westbound Red Bridge traffic switches to new roadway
The City of Kansas City, Mo., is advising motorists that access on Red Bridge Road, between Blue River Road and Holmes Road, will increase for motorists starting Monday, Aug. 8. Access has been limited due to construction activity.
Crews will transfer westbound traffic to the new alignment on the west side of the newly constructed Red Bridge. Westbound traffic will stay on the westbound lane to the median at Holmes and Red Bridge roads, at which point traffic will open to two lanes and a left turn lane.
Eastbound traffic will remain in one lane from Holmes Road until construction is complete on the new westbound improvements.
Final asphalt resurfacing of the westbound and eastbound lanes will occur just prior to opening the roadway across the new bridge this fall.
The two year construction project will improve Red Bridge Road between Holmes Road and Blue River Road, adding curbs, sidewalks and other amenities to the south Kansas City arterial. In addition, the project will replace the current Red Bridge over the Blue River with a new structure more suited to the traffic needs of the area.
Detour signs and changeable message boards will be posted prior to the transfer.
Media inquiries and other requests for more information about this closure or the Red Bridge Road construction project should be directed to Sean Demory, Capital Projects Department, 816-513-0059.
