Kansas City Convention and Entertainment Facilities receives Prime Site Award
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Convention and Entertainment Facilities has been selected for a 2011 Prime Site Award by Facilities & Destinations Magazine for the fifth consecutive year.
The Convention Center was selected due to its prime location in the heart of downtown Kansas City, minutes from restaurants, hotels and entertainment, and just a short drive from the Kansas City International Airport. The Convention Center offers 337,000 square feet exhibit space on one floor, 47 state of the art meeting rooms, a 2,400 seat fine arts theatre, and an arena that seats more than 10,700 people.
The Grand Ballroom, which has previously been awarded the LEED Silver rating by the U.S. Green Building Council, is a 40,400 square foot room that can be expanded to 46,600 square feet, making it one of the 10 largest convention center ballrooms in the country. The room connects to the Conference Center to provide additional breakout rooms and also opens to an outdoor plaza at the southeast corner of the complex. The room is equipped with a sophisticated color-changing light system and dramatic views of the city from the 38-foot-high glass wall.
“I am delighted that the Kansas City Convention and Entertainment Facilities has been recognized with this prestigious award,” said Oscar C. McGaskey, director of Kansas City Convention and Entertainment Facilities. “This is an example of the commitment from our employees to provide a high level of customer service.”
Facilities & Destinations Prime Site Awards are based on the opinions of those in the industry directly involved with site selection. An awards ballot ran in the last several issues of Facilities & Destinations Magazine and on the publication’s website. Any facility that received more than a set number of votes qualified as a Prime Site Award winner.
