Special Committee on Small Business invites businesses to participate at a rare night committee meeting
The City of Kansas City, Mo.’s Special Committee on Small Business encourages businesses to participate and provide input at its Thursday, June 30 committee meeting at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chamber, 26th floor of City Hall, 414 E. 12th St.
“We would like to hear from businesses that have gone through the KCMO licensing process or in the process of doing so,” said Committee Chair and Councilman Scott Taylor. “We want to hear their suggestions for improvement to the process as well as comments on what they like.”
The Special Committee on Small Business was recently created by Mayor Sly James and focuses on streamlining the licensing process for start-up small businesses; reviewing consolidation of City functions by expanding business start-up services offered at KC BizCare; and encouraging efforts of the City in assisting minority-owned start-up businesses.
The committee will generally meet on Thursdays at noon, but will occasionally offer evening meetings, such as this one, to allow businesses to attend that would normally be unable to come during the day.
To be further inclusive of all businesses, particularly small businesses, a webpage for business community engagement is currently in development that will allow comments from businesses that are not able to testify during a meeting.
In addition to Committee Chair, Councilman Taylor, committee members include Vice Chair, Councilman Scott Wagner, Councilman Jermaine Reed and Councilwoman Cindy Circo.
Businesses interested in speaking at the Thursday, June 30 committee meeting at 7 p.m. are advised to call Lisa Sturgeon, aide to Councilman Scott Taylor, at 816-513-6523.
