Kansas City welcomes the National League of Cities and Women in Municipal Government

The City of Kansas City, Mo., welcomes nearly 100 municipal elected officials from throughout the nation June 2 - 4 as the three committees of the National League of Cities and NLC constituency group, Women in Municipal Government, hold meetings in Kansas City.

The NLC Public Policy Steering Committees on Energy, Environment and Natural Resources; Transportation and Infrastructure; and Information Technology will hold sessions at the Kauffman Center to set public policy advocacy issues for NLC adoption at the annual meeting in November. Members of these NLC committees will tour the Smith Electric Vehicles facility on the afternoon of Thursday, June 2.

Women in Municipal Government will be holding training sessions at the Intercontinental Hotel, located on the Plaza.

Both organizations will hold a joint reception at the Intercontinental Hotel on Thursday evening, June 2, with Mayor Sly James officially welcoming the visiting officials to Kansas City.

“The National League of Cities’ work on public policy issues is of importance to cities throughout our nation,” said Fourth District Councilwoman Jan Marcason. “I am confident that the League’s time in Kansas City will be both productive and memorable.”

On Friday, June 3, NLC committees will take the Brush Creek walking path to travel on foot from the Intercontinental Hotel to the Kauffman Center as they experience our major storm water system, Brush Creek.

To conclude the officials’ visit to our city, a tour of the Green Impact Zone is planned from 1:30 - 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 4.
