City receives Southtown Public Achievement Award
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Public Works Department has received the Southtown Council’s Southtown Public Achievement Award for its 63rd Street Improvement Project.
Public Works received this honor for its exceptional efforts to improve and beautify 63rd Street between Oak Street and Troost Avenue. Although other improvements are in the works, the replacement of sidewalks, curbs and driveways on 63rd Street has made the area more pedestrian-friendly for businesses, neighbors and visitors.
The 63rd Street Improvement Project has been made possible with the help of a successful Public Improvements Advisory Committee application, the involvement of the Public Works Department and a public investment of more than $150,000.
The award was presented at the annual Southtown Beautification Awards dinner at the Uptown Theatre on May 17.
The Southtown Council, a non-profit organization, has honored businesses, institutions, public entities and individuals for improvements in the Southtown community for more than 20 years. The Council provides a network for communication that has helped to create an environment for greater economic and community growth.
