Engage KC Leadership Board hosts Meet and Greet

Board seeking new members for 2011-12 term

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Engage KC Leadership Board is recruiting driven, dedicated young adults ages 16-27 to serve on the board for the 2011-12 term. Engage KC is sponsored by the Office of Civic and Community Engagement, a division of the City’s Manager’s Office.

Those interested in applying for the board are encouraged to attend an Engage KC Leadership Board Meet and Greet on either May 19 or May 26 from 6-7 p.m. on the 10th floor of City Hall, 414 E. 12th St.

The Engage KC Leadership Board helps build Kansas City’s future leaders by coaching them on leadership skills, teamwork and knowledge of the community today. Topics introduced throughout the board members’ 11-month-term include Education, Environment, Marketing and Communications, Public Policy, Governmental Services and Workforce Development. These topics are presented through discussions, tours, seminars and informational meetings. Leaders also participate in a one-day retreat to build relationships and leadership skills.

“One of the most important things we can do as a community is to get our young people involved in civic decisions,” said Mayor Sly James. “They should have both significant input and impact on the choices we make for the future of our city. After all, many of those choices will affect them most of all. For you who want to make a difference, get involved and make positive change happen in our city, here is your chance to step up.”

To apply to the Engage KC Leadership Board, visit www.kcmo.org/engagekc or contact the Office of Civic and Community Engagement at 816-513-1378. The application deadline is Friday, June 3.

A selection committee comprised of a cross-sector of leaders will review applications and recommend the rising leaders to the Mayor and City Council for final selection. The 2010-11 Engage KC Leadership Board term will run from June 2011 through May 2012.
