City Planning and Development Plans win awards
The City of Kansas City, Mo., has won multiple awards for two recent planning efforts focused on the City’s Third Council District. These plans – the Vine Street District Economic Development Plan and the Heart of the City Area Plan – are significant as they will serve as a guide for future development in the district.
The Vine Street Plan received an “Award of Excellence” from the Central States American Society of Landscape Architects. This award is the society’s highest level of recognition- out of 52 submittals, the Vine Street Plan was the only plan to receive this honor. The Vine Street Plan was also the recipient of a “Merit Award” from the American Society of Landscape Architects, Prairie Gateway Chapter (PGASLA). The Vine Street Plan is managed by City Planning staff and consulted by both Confluence and Collins, Noteis and Associates.
The Heart of The City Area Plan also received a “Merit Award” from the PGALSA. This award recognizes the hard work and commitment of Heart of the City residents working together with the City. The Heart of the City Plan was prepared by City of Kansas City, Mo., City Planning staff with assistance from BNIM Architects and ETC Institute.
“These awards not only represent hours of hard work from City Planning Staff and community members but also a determination to see these communities realize their full potential through the continued implementation of the plan recommendations,” said Third District-at-Large Councilwoman Melba Curls.
Both plans provide strategies to revitalize and redevelop the most distressed neighborhoods in Kansas City, Mo. City staff will continue to work with the community to implement the plans.
