City Manager appoints legislative liaison
Acting City Manager Troy Schulte announced Wednesday the appointment of Salvatore “Sam” Panettiere to serve as liaison to the Missouri General Assembly and area Congressional delegation.
Panettiere, former regional director for recently retired Sen. Christopher “Kit” Bond for western Missouri, officially began his duties as the first session of the 96th Missouri General Assembly convened. As the City’s legislative liaison, Panettiere will assist the City Council in communicating the City’s key policy and legislative issues to government officials in Jefferson City, Mo. and Washington, D.C.
"Last session, under Legislative Committee Chair John Sharp, we had a very successful lobbying effort at the state as evidenced by Governor Nixon's long bill signing session in Kansas City," Mayor Mark Funkhouser said. "I know Mr. Panettiere will help us continue that momentum this winter. His experience in Washington and connections in Jefferson City are going to serve the City well."
As the senator’s director in Kansas City, Mo., Panettiere worked closely with elected officials from municipal, county and state government on behalf of Bond to address their federal appropriations requests and legislative policy inquiries. Panettiere also conducted and participated in numerous community outreach efforts across the state to provide federal legislative information and various other constituent services.
“His knowledge of the policies and politics at all levels of government, his relationships with key players, and his experience as an aide for Sen. Bond on economic and community development issues give him the ability to work in a bipartisan fashion in the pursuit of a common goal – getting our area’s fair share of federal and state appropriations,” said Councilman John A. Sharp, chair of the City’s legislative committee. “His expertise will be a great benefit to the entire community.”
“Sam brings a unique perspective to the City with a background that allows him to see first-hand how important it is for the City to maintain positive relationships and effective communications with our state and federal officials,” added Schulte.
Prior to his role as Sen. Bond’s regional director, Panettiere served as a field representative for Bond in St. Louis, Mo. and northwest Missouri. Panettiere received a Bachelor of Science degree in political science and public administration from Northwest Missouri State University.
