City appoints assistant city manager for neighborhoods
City of Kansas City, Mo., Acting City Manager Troy Schulte announced the appointment of John Wood to the position of assistant city manager for neighborhoods effective Monday, Jan. 3. Wood has more than 20 years of professional experience with a background in community/economic development programming and management, underwriting and lending for urban development, and non-profit and small business projects.
"John has been an articulate, aggressive advocate for Kansas City neighborhoods for more than 25 years," said Mayor Mark Funkhouser. "As Kansas City recovers from the mortgage crisis, and as we restore our neighborhoods, John's experience in both housing and the financial sector will provide the City staff and our neighborhoods and community development organizations a strong resource. We're fortunate to have John return to City Hall."
Prior to joining the City, Wood served as senior program officer for the Greater Kansas City Local Initiatives Support Corporation, (2005-2010); branch manager for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, (2003-2005); assistant vice president and community affairs officer for the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, (1990-2003); and has had experiences in commercial banking, the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and the City of Kansas City, Mo.’s Department of Housing and Community Development.
Wood holds a master’s degree in public administration from The Ohio State University, a bachelor’s degree in sociology/urban studies from Virginia Union University and a certificate from the Colorado Graduate School of Banking at the University of Colorado.
