Vacant and foreclosing property registration is required with the City Monday, August 9, 2010
The City of Kansas City, Mo., is issuing a reminder to owners of vacant and foreclosing property located in the City in an effort to let them know they must renew or establish registration of these properties with the City's Neighborhood and Community Services Department on an annual basis. Annual registration of these properties is part of the Registration and Inspection Program established by the City Council, with passage of ordinance No. 081277 in February 2009. The vacant and foreclosing property registration requirements went into effect May 1, 2009.

Rental Registration is required for rental properties Monday, August 9, 2010
The City of Kansas City, Mo., is issuing a reminder to owners of rental dwellings located in the City in an effort to let them know they must renew or establish registration of their rental properties with the City's Neighborhood and Community Services Department on an annual basis. Annual registration of rental properties is part of the Rental Registration and Inspection Program that was established by the City Council, with passage of ordinance No. 071046 in October 2007.

Lane closures due to water main breaks at 89 & Wornall scheduled to be opened by Monday afternoon rush hour Monday, August 9, 2010
The lane closures between 87th and 90th on Wornall Road that was caused by 12-inch water main break last Wednesday are scheduled to reopen Monday afternoon before the evening rush hour unless complications arise. Traffic is currently reduced to one lane in each direction between 87th and 90th streets. Detours are posted.

Residents advised about wastewater overflow into creek that leads to the Little Blue River Saturday, August 7, 2010
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Water Services Department report that a broken sewer line in a wooded area near 5990 Noland Road caused a wastewater overflow into unnamed, non-recreational creek that flows to the Little Blue River at 12 pm on Friday, August 6th. The City’s drinking water supply is not affected by this overflow.

KCI Airport Terminal B Roadwork to Occur Again This Weekend Friday, August 6, 2010
Delta and Southwest Customers Urged to Allow Extra Time Nearing completion is the $2.8 million project on the Terminal B roadway system, medians, bus shelters and garage pedestrian tunnels at Kansas City International Airport. Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines operate from Terminal B. Milling and paving requires the closure of traffic lanes and access to some areas of the terminal curb and commercial medians. To minimize inconvenience to customers, this work was scheduled to be done in large sections during off-peak times.

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Health Department has been notified of a fourth suspected heat-related death in the metro that is currently under investigation by the Jackson County Medical Examiner. As this is an on-going medical investigation, no additional information can be released on the death at this time. Upon confirmation, which may take weeks or months depending on aspects of the investigation, information can be made available.

Nominating petitions for 2011 election available in City Clerk’s Office Wednesday, August 4, 2010
Due to a high volume of inquiries, the City of Kansas City, Mo. City Clerk’s Office is making available nominating petitions for those interested in running in the 2011 Mayor and City Council Election. Usually not available until August 31, the petitions are available for pick-up in person in the City Clerk’s Office, 25th floor of City Hall, 414 E. 12th Street. Petitions will soon be available online at www.kcmo.org/election. There is no limitation on the number of petitions a registered voter may sign. It is no longer necessary for the circulator to print the name of each signer at the bottom of each petition. Candidate qualifications and information are available online at www.kcmo.org/election.

Water Services Department begins sewer rehabilitation work in Middle Blue River Basin Green Solutions Pilot Project area Tuesday, August 3, 2010
Preliminary sewer rehabilitation work has begun in the Middle Blue River Basin Green Solutions Pilot Project area. Contractors began this week to clean and televise the existing sewer lines in the pilot project area. To date, about 50% of the sewers have been televised. Preliminary work is expected to last for several weeks.

Municipal Drug Court receives $544,120 Grant Friday, July 30, 2010
The City of Kansas City, Mo. Municipal Drug Court received a Mental Health grant from the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City for $544,120. This grant will provide Municipal Drug Court participants with evaluation for co-occurring disorders and access to a psychiatrist and motivational enhancement groups while waiting for residential treatment. In addition, the grant will provide case management and residential treatment for substance abuse.
